I am the next Kyle Juszczyk

The Average College Football Fan

Intro

I wish I could tell you I am a college football guru. Maybe even an ex player next in line for the next FOX sports analysts job. But the truth is, I am just your average college football fan.

I’ll watch a couple of games each week. Try to make time for the big ones, and maybe a one off here or there. So these takes may be worthless, in fact I can almost guarantee they will be. But maybe someone could find use for them. Maybe I could be the Juszczyk to your Shanahan.

Each week I’ll just give my thoughts on what happened in the college football world, maybe throw in a hot take or two. I’ll also try to find a way to engage with who ever reads this, have some laid back convos on some ball this fall.

Anyways with that said, here are a few thoughts from week 0 of college football:

  • Georgia Tech looked dangerous. That O-line and running game is something that I think will travel well. The ACC couldn’t stop them last year (I think they were a top 3 offense in the conference), and it looks like things will only be worse for the the conference this year. The scariest part however was the defense. Had some ball hawks flying at the ball every play. Only concern I had was with their qb, King. Dude made some good throws in those second half drives, but they seemed to be pretty oc (out of control). Jumping around the pocket and throwing mid-sack. I don’t know how much longer that bs will last, curious to see if the guy can sit in the pocket and sling it. If he can, don’t be surprised if the yellow jackets are still in ACC contention come November.

  • Florida State, what happened? That offense turned Dublin into Dudlin. They definitely had some solid drives (mainly their 4th quarter touchdown march), but overall it was just pretty lackluster. As a viewer, I’ll watch the “gypped” seminoles get fathered by an unranked opponent any day, but I can’t imagine how watching that offense felt to the Florida State faithful. I don’t plan on writing them off too quick, but this performance didn’t leave the best taste in my mouth. I would like to see DJ finally put together the season they keep promising from him, but if this start was any indicator, might be more of the same.

  • I didn’t watch the other couple of games, but seemed like two good wins. Not sure how much to take from a win over Nevada, but I expect SMU to be ahead of the curve for a typical transition into a power 5 conference.

Couple hot takes looking forward:

  • I don’t think Noah Fifita and the Arizona Wildcats are being talked about enough. For some context, Fifita (true fresh), didn’t start last year until week 4. His first two games came against the Michael Penix lead Washington Huskies and Caleb Williams lead USC Trojans, which Arizona lost by a combined 9 points. He then went on to win the last 7 games, 5 of which were ranked opponents. This year it’s his team from week 1. This guy seems to be, on all accounts, an absolute dawg. And don’t get me started on his wideout McMillan. #Fifi4Heisman

  • The Oregon Ducks are not going to the playoffs. This could be totally off, but I just don’t think Dillon Gabriel is that guy. Maybe I’m just biased against transfers, but this move felt like a cop out. The Ducks in general are definitely stacked, but I think Michigan/Penn State and Ohio State get in over them. Have a hard time seeing 3 Big Ten teams getting into the playoffs, but I may just not understand how the selection committee is going to approach this.
