Revisiting Preseason Takes Two Weeks Into the Season
Before the season started, I made a few bold predictions. Now, two weeks into the season, let’s check in and see how those takes are holding up.
Preseason Take #1 - Noah Fifita and the Arizona Wildcats will reach the Big 12 Championship Game
Status: True
Arizona has had a slower start than I anticipated, but they’re still on track. They beat New Mexico 61-39 and Northern Arizona 22-10. Noah Fifita has had his ups and downs, but he’s come through when it’s mattered most. Wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan? Just as I expected—a dawg. The offense and defense have both struggled, but thankfully, not on the same day. Next up is a non-conference game against the 14th-ranked Kansas State. This matchup should give us a clearer picture of how much of a threat Arizona really is.
Preseason Take #2 - The Kansas Jayhawks will join Arizona in the Big 12 Championship
Status: False
It’s been a rough start for the Jayhawks, especially with a close loss to Illinois. While they’re not out of the race yet—conference play hasn’t even begun—Jalon Daniels has to be better. Right now, he’s the one thing holding this team back. If he figures it out, I’m back on the train. Until then, consider me sleeping on Kansas.
Preseason Take #3 - The Oregon Ducks will miss the playoffs
Status: True
I’m feeling great about this take. Despite the Ducks’ 2-0 record, their wins have been far from convincing. They barely beat Idaho and Boise State by a combined 13 points—at home. I can’t see Oregon escaping the regular season with fewer than two losses. Dillon Gabriel, you might as well start prepping your acceptance speech for the 2024 Idaho Potato Bowl MVP.
Preseason Take #4 - Cam Rising won’t play a full season
Status: True
Well, here we are. It’s almost laughable at this point. Cam Rising did look solid in his first 1.5 games, but then it all came crashing down—right into the water cooler. He injured his hand and will likely miss a game or two. It’s not the end of the world, but once he’s back, I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up sidelined again. Better luck next year, Cam.
Conclusion
Not bad for your average college football fan. Two weeks down, 10 to go.
